Led by new head coach Marti Cifuentes, the Portland Timbers arrive in Kansas City on the heels of three straight defeats and looking for their first win of the year outside the Pacific Time Zone (0-7-1). Offensively, the visitors are led by the Designated Player duo of David Da Costa (four goals, eight assists) and Kristoffer Velde (eight goals, nine assists) after the departures of Felipe Mora and Kevin Kelsey this summer.

Defensively, Portland has conceded the most shots on goal in MLS this year as James Pantemis leads all Western Conference goalkeepers in saves (112). Sporting Kansas City and the Timbers each have only shutout this season -- with Portland's lone clean sheet coming in a 6-0 victory over SKC in May -- and the two teams have allowed the most goals in the conference.
