After back-to-back home matches, Sporting Kansas City returns to the road to take on the Houston Dynamo FC at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Shell Energy Stadium in a Western Conference match-up featuring two of the top Brazilians in Major League Soccer as Sporting Kansas City Designated Player Andre Luiz and Houston Dynamo FC Designated Player Guilherme go head to head.
Acquired in a club-record transfer fee from Olympiacos FC, Andre enters HOUvSKC with three goals in the past two games after scoring his first MLS goal against LAFC on Sept. 12 before bagging a brace against Philadelphia last weekend as the 24-year-old winger became the first player in club history to score twice in the first 10 minutes of an MLS match.
On the opposite side, Guilherme is amidst a record-setting season with 22 goal contributions (14 goals, eight assists) - the most ever by a Houston Dynamo player -- as the MLS All-Star leads Major League Soccer with six game-winning goals in 2026.
Sporting has played Houston more often than any other opponent during the Sporting era with Saturday's encounter marking the 51st meeting across all competitions since the start of 2011. The Dynamo are the only opponent SKC has faced in six editions of the MLS Cup Playoffs, including the club's most recent postseason action in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals at Shell Energy Stadium.
Sporting Kansas City has earned at least a point in nine of its last 11 league meetings with Houston (5-2-4) dating back to 2021, however SKC fell 2-0 against Houston last month in a result that leveled the all-time regular season series at 15 wins and 17 draws apiece.
SKC won the season series in 2025 with a 3-1 comeback win in Houston on May 31 and a 0-0 tie at Sporting Park on Oct. 18. The scoreless draw on Decision Day was Sporting's last shutout as SKC has gone 25 regular season matches without a clean sheet in 2026, the longest streak in club history and the fourth longest single-season streak in league history.
Led by head coach Ben Olsen, Houston is unbeaten in 11 straight home games across all competitions (8-0-3) dating back to April and the Dynamo have conceded the fewest goals at home (10) of any team in MLS this year.
Sitting in second place in the Western Conference table, Houston were active in the summer transfer window including the addition of striker Lyle Foster on loan from Burnley as the 26-year-old now awaits his debut after representing South Africa in the World Cup this summer. Foster joins an attack that features the Designated Player duo of Polish playmaker Mateusz Bogusz and Guilherme who were both on the scoresheet in last week's 2-2 draw with FC Cincinnati.
Guilherme, 31, is one of 10 players age 30 or older on a Dynamo roster that has the oldest average age (28) in MLS currently, including 36-year-old Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera. Conversely, goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland (32) is the only player age 30 or older for a Sporting Kansas City side that has seen 20 different players debut for the team this season -- the most since the club's inaugural campaign in 1996 -- after 19-year-old Ruben Ramos Jr. and 21-year-old Owen Wolff each earned their first minutes in last week's 4-3 loss against the Philadelphia Union.
