Sporting KC II goalkeeper Brooks Thompson nets USL Championship Team of the Week honors

Brooks Thompson

Sporting Kansas City II goalkeeper Brooks Thompson was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week today after playing an integral role in the club’s 1-0 road win over Indy Eleven on Saturday.

Returning to his home state, Thompson produced four pivotal saves at Lucas Oil Stadium en route to his first professional shutout as Sporting KC II snapped Indy Eleven’s 28-game regular season home unbeaten streak. The 18-year-old Sporting KC Academy product and Indiana native made particularly impressive stops to deny Indy attackers Tyler Pasher, Felicien Dumas and Andrew Carleton, setting the stage for Sporting KC II defender Danny Barbir to decide the match with a brilliant strike in the 70th minute.

Thompson, who made a winning debut for Sporting KC II on July 17, 2019, has started three of the club’s five USL Championship matches this season. He has amassed 13 saves and boasts a save percentage of .813.

Winners of two straight matches, Sporting KC II will look to continue their victorious ways on Wednesday when the club visits rivals Saint Louis FC at West Community Stadium in Fenton, Missouri. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT with a live stream on ESPN Plus and additional in-game updates available on Twitter at @SportingKCII.
