A new episode of the Sporting Kansas City Show debuted Tuesday night as hosts Carter Augustine and Aly Trost provided a comprehensive preview of Friday's highly anticipated and long-awaited road match against Minnesota United FC, which will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City Plus, FOX Sports GO and Sports Radio 810 WHB.
The contest marks the continuation of the 2020 MLS regular season for both clubs as Major League Soccer returns to home markets. Manager Peter Vermes' men occupy first place in the Western Conference with 12 points and a 4-1-0 record, while the second-place Loons are just a point behind and unbeaten at 3-0-2.
To discuss the upcoming game and recap last month's MLS is Back Tournament, Augustine and Trost welcomed Sporting center back Graham Smith to the show. Smith enjoyed a breakthrough at Walt Disney World, starting in each of the club's last three matches of the competition and helping the side to a pair of shutouts against Real Salt Lake and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Additionally, 18-year-old Sporting Kansas City II midfielder Jake Davis joined the program talk about his journey through the Sporting Kansas City Academy. The insightful interview comes in conjunction with Audi's new series "THE ACADEMY," which begins today at 10 a.m. CT on B/R Football as a five-part documentary on the Sporting KC Academy. Davis starred in the Academy from 2017-2020 before signing his first professional contract with Sporting KC II in June.
"THE ACADEMY" documentary series will provide a detailed look at tactical meetings, closed training sessions and how the Sporting KC academy managed the transition to remote and virtual trainings as well as season delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
