Breast Cancer Awareness Night Oct 9

The Kansas City Wizards will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Night at their next home match on Saturday, October 9 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, in conjunction with the MLS W.O.R.K.S. Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative. The Wizards will help raise awareness and funds for the Young Survival Coalition Kansas City through promotion of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and an auction of apparel, including autographed pink soccer balls, jerseys and other player-worn items.

“Young Survival Coalition (YSC) Kansas City is excited to partner with the Kansas City Wizards for Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Jennifer Johnson, YSC Kansas City Executive Director. “YSC encourages all women to know their bodies and be their own breast health advocate, and never let anyone tell them they are ‘too young’ for breast cancer.”

In collaboration with MLS corporate partners adidas, American Airlines and Gatorade, the Wizards match against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, October 9 will be played with a commemorative pink adidas Jabulani match ball. CommunityAmerica Ballpark will highlight the campaign with pink co-branded American Airlines field boards, and players will use pink sideline towels provided by Gatorade.

Kansas City and Seattle players will also wear a special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patch on their uniforms, and similar commemorative pins will be worn by members of the Wizards and Sounders coaching staffs.

“Breast cancer is a serious disease that affects both men and women,” said JoAnn Neale, executive vice president of MLS. “Major League Soccer is proud to collaborate with our clubs, players and corporate partners to raise awareness and support the fight against breast cancer.”
