Sporting KC defender Cyprian Hedrick suffers fractured fibula

Sporting Kansas City defender Cyprian Hedrick will undergo surgery to repair a fractured fibula in his left leg on Friday, the team announced Thursday. Hedrick is expected to miss up to four months of action.


Sporting Kansas City selected Hedrick 30th overall in the second round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft and officially added him to the roster in February. Hedrick has appeared in MLS Reserve League and exhibition matches for Sporting KC this year after earning minutes in six pre-season games.

Hedrick attended Coastal Carolina University, where he was named Big South Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and was named First Team All-Big South and to the NSCAA’s All-South Atlantic Team. He was also recognized as an NSCAA Men's Collegiate Scholar All-American first team selection.

Sporting Kansas City will host the Colorado Rapids at 7:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, June 5 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
