PV & Soony on FC Tucson match

PV & Soony on FC Tucson match -

Kansas City played their second match of the 2013 preseason, a 1-1 draw against FC Tucson on Tuesday evening. Below are Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes and forward Soony Saad's thoughts on the match.

Peter Vermes

Thoughts on the match
I think there were some good moments and some poor moments but I think its to be expected when you play a game this early in the preseason. Everyone's still geting adjusted and adapted. With all the training sessions we've been having, physically everyone is beaten down a little bit and they're trying to get their timing down. The positive thing is that there were some good moments. We played two different teams in two different halves and everybody stayed healthy so that part I'm happy about.
On the new players
In the second half, a lot of the new guys showed some good qualities that we're looking for, especially Christian Duke and Mikey Lopez. One of the things that both those guys did was we worked with them this week on some coordination between the midfielders and both of them did a really good job of trying to implement what we worked on this week. It shows that they can listen to what you have to say, take that information, and actually apply it to their game.

On scoring opening goal
It was a great build-up play from everyone. We were moving the ball around from left to right. We had a sequence where Chance made a run then he whipped it in first time and my movement, we were working on it all week. I pulled my run away then checked at the far post and tried to get my head on it and I did. It was a pretty good goal.
Thoughts on the match
Besides the fitness aspect, we tried to work on our team shape, the way we move the ball, the way we press together, the way we defend, and how we attack as a team. There's a lot of positives to take from the first two games and a couple things to definitely work on but I think we're making some progress in the sense of attacking with a purpose and trying to get everyone involved and we did a pretty good job today. We just need to put away some chances and that will come.
