Sporting Club and National World War I Museum to co-host inaugural Truce Tournament

The Truce Tournament

Sporting Club and the World War I Museum invite the Kansas City soccer community to take part in the inaugural Truce Tournament. Paired with an English Premier League Watch Party inside the WWI Museum, this 3v3 tournament will be played right on Liberty Hill with the KC skyline providing an unmistakable backdrop.

The Truce Tournament will be held on Boxing Day -- December 26, 2013 -- and will be structured as a
World Cup-style tournament with teams beginning play in a round-robin group stage. The top 1-2 teams from each group will advance to single-elimination knockout rounds. However, between playing games, participants will find plenty of entertainment options inside the WWI Museum, with Boulevard providing beer on tap for everyone taking part in the EPL Watch Party.

In addition to entry into the Truce Tournament (including a minimum of 2-3 games), teams that sign up for The Truce Tournament will receive a tournament t-shirt, a pass to the WWI Museum and EPL Watch Party tickets (which includes complimentary access to the kegs and eggs as well as multiple viewing locations for all of the EPL matches on TV that day) for each player registered on their roster. Registration is $180 per team and will close on December 12, 2013. Proceeds from The Truce Tournament will benefit The Victory Project in its mission to help kids in Kansas City who have cancer.

Kicking off in 2013, one year prior to the 100th anniversary of World War I, The Truce Tournament is also a tribute to the time-honored story of the Christmas Truce. According to legend, the battles of WWI temporarily subsided around Christmas in 1914 and members of both warring sides ventured out to No Man's Land to exchange gifts, sing carols and play soccer!
