The Swope Park Rangers return home to take on OKC Energy FC on Tuesday, July 12 at Swope Soccer Village. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and the game will be available via live stream on SportingKC.com, while tickets are available here.
The Rangers head into the midweek matchup with a 6-7-3 (21 pts.) record and a three-game unbeaten streak, having gone 2-0-1 since their last game against OKC Energy FC on June 18 – a 3-1 home defeat. Since then, SPR has defeated Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Saint Louis FC before playing to a 1-1 tie with Arizona United SC on Saturday night.
In Saturday’s game with Arizona, the Rangers fell behind in the 27th minute to Long Tan’s penalty kick before responding with a penalty of their own three minutes later – converted by Kris Tyrpak. Midway through the second half, a pair of red cards were shown to Arizona’s Matheus Silva and SPR’s Ayrton following a team-wide confrontation between the two sides as the game finished in a draw.
OKC Energy FC sit just one place above the Rangers having gone 5-2-7 (22 pts.) this season and are 0-0-3 since their last meeting with SPR on June 18. On Saturday, the Energy played to a goalless draw with San Antonio FC at Toyota Field, where club captain and Kansas City native Michael Thomas was sent off – meaning he will be suspended for Tuesday’s game – for an altercation with San Antonio goalkeeper Josh Ford – who was also ejected.
The Rangers have gone 0-2-0 against OKC Energy FC, falling 1-0 in the first-ever meeting between the sides on April 23 before suffering a 3-1 defeat on June 18. SPR’s Ayrton put his side ahead early in the most recent game before OKC responded with goals from Thomas, Wojciech Wojcik and Daniel Gonzalez to take all three points.
The Swope Park Rangers will celebrate Faith and Family Night at Tuesday’s game, which will include $1 hot dogs and the third installment of the commemorative poster series. A full list of gameday features can be found here.
