Sporting KC appoints Meghan Cameron as Assistant Director of Player Personnel

Meghan Cameron joins Sporting KC

Sporting Kansas City announced on Friday that Meghan Cameron has joined the club’s technical staff as Assistant Director of Player Personnel.

Cameron will work directly with Sporting KC Director of Player Personnel Brian Bliss, specializing in roster and budget management while also holding a player development and scouting role for Sporting KC, the Swope Park Rangers and the Sporting KC Academy.

“As we were looking for candidates to become our Assistant Director of Player Personnel, Meghan was at the top of the list because we have had great experiences working with her for the last several years in MLS,” Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said. “She has a rich soccer background and excellent knowledge of the rules around player contracts, salary cap intricacies and player acquisition mechanisms within the League. Meghan’s skillset makes her a perfect addition to the club, and we look forward to her excelling in this capacity.”

“In working at the League Office, Kansas City has always struck me as a great city with terrific supporters and a tremendous MLS organization,” Cameron said. “I feel my knowledge of the League’s contracts and rules allows me to bring a unique and long-term perspective of rosters and budgets. I am excited to work with Peter and the rest of the technical staff to continue to grow the success of Sporting KC.”

Cameron, 34, brings a wealth of knowledge and professional experience from her previous role as Senior Manager, Player Relations at Major League Soccer. She has worked within the Player Relations and Competition Department since 2010, helping all MLS clubs manage their respective rosters and budgets. She also approved player acquisitions, trades and oversaw the League’s competition calendar.

While at MLS, Cameron coordinated a variety of player initiatives, including the annual Media and Marketing Tour, the Rookie Symposium and numerous events at the MLS All-Star Game and MLS Homegrown Game. At the international level, she facilitated youth coaching partnerships with Spain’s La Liga and the French Football Federation. Prior to joining MLS, Cameron was a member of the D.C. United sales team from 2005-2008.

Cameron, a native of Roxbury Township, New Jersey, played collegiate soccer at Rutgers University — just as Vermes did from 1985-1987. She helped the Scarlet Knights reach the Sweet 16 of the 2002 NCAA Tournament and received Big East Academic All-American honors in 2004. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 2005.
