National TV: Two games highlight Week 23 slate in MLS

Sporting Kansas City will look to bounce back into the win column on Saturday when the club ventures south to face rivals Houston Dynamo at 8 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City Plus, FOX Sports Midwest Plus and FOX Sports GO.

But Kansas City soccer fans will have the opportunity to catch even more live action as Major League Soccer presents two nationally televised matches in Week 23. Let's jump straight into the action.

Atlanta United FC vs. Toronto FC | 3 p.m. CT Saturday, ESPN

Alas, the 2017 MLS Supporters' Shield champion travels to meet the favorite to capture this year's trophy. Toronto FC (6-11-4, 22 points) has endured a tumultuous 2018 campaign, but two straight victories over the Chicago Fire have given restored belief to the reigning treble winners as they look to climb above the playoff line in the Eastern Conference.

On the opposite sideline, Atlanta United FC (14-4-5, 47 points) boasts a striker in the form of his life: Josef Martinez has scored a ridiculous 24 goals in 23 games this year, three goals shy of tying the MLS regular season record. Expect fireworks on Saturday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the same venue that hosted the 2018 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target on Wednesday night.

New York Red Bulls vs. LAFC | 5 p.m. CT Sunday, FS1

A mouthwatering interconference matchup rounds out the Week 23 slate as LAFC (10-5-6, 36 points) travels across the country to battle the high-flying New York Red Bulls (13-6-2, 41 points) at Red Bull Arena. No team scores at a better clip than LAFC's 2.10 goals per game, and with the likes of Adama Diomande, Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi leading the attack, the hosts will have their work cut out defensively.

The Red Bulls aren't too shabby going forward either, however, and New York had won six of their previous seven games before falling 3-2 to Columbus Crew SC last weekend. Bradley Wright-Phillips has a team-best 14 goals, while midfielder Kaku has just as many assists — more than any other player in MLS. Just like Saturday's game in Atlanta, Sunday's fixture is likely to pack a scoring punch.
