Sporting KC quartet named to Concacaf Champions League Team of the Week

Four Sporting Kansas City players were named to the Concacaf Champions League Team of the Week today, less than 24 hours after helping the team to a dominant 3-0 quarterfinal victory over Independiente at Children's Mercy Park.

Midfielder Roger Espinoza and defender Graham Zusi joined forwards Gerso Fernandes and Krisztian Nemeth among Concacaf's best performers in the second-leg stage of the quarterfinals.

Sporting has advanced to the Concacaf Champions League Semifinals for the first time in club history, claiming a 4-2 aggregate victory over the Panamanian outfit after dropping the first leg 2-1 last week on the road. Thursday's comeback was sparked by a Krisztian Nemeth brace and an Espinoza strike, while Gerso recorded an assist and Zusi played an important role in limiting Independiente to just five shot attempts.

Single-game tickets for the second leg of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Semifinals between Sporting Kansas City and Mexican giants Monterrey at Children’s Mercy Park are now on sale at Tickets for the monumental showdown, which will take place between April 9-11, are included in Sporting Kansas City Season Ticket Member packages.

Sporting will visit Monterrey for the first leg at Estadio BBVA Bancomer between April 2-4 before hosting the Mexican side in the decisive return fixture the following week. Concacaf will announce exact dates, kickoff times, streaming and broadcast details for both semifinal matches in the near term.
