Sporting KC players exempt from 2020 MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday

MLS newcomer Austin FC will continue to build its inaugural 2021 season roster by selecting up to five players in the 2020 MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday. The event will stream live on MLSsoccer.com and the MLS App as well as the league's FacebookTwitter and YouTube platforms.

As a club that had a player taken in the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft—Nashville SC selected midfielder Jimmy Medranda last fall—all Sporting Kansas City players are exempt from selection in this year's Expansion Draft.

While 10 teams are exempt from losing players after having players selected in the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft, the remaining 16 teams were allowed to protect up to 12 eligible players.  Austin FC will make up to five picks from a list of 160 players.

Exempt clubs include Sporting Kansas City, Atlanta United, FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew SC, Los Angeles Football Club, Minnesota United FC, New England Revolution, New York City FC, Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders FC.
