In Episode 6 of The Nutmeg Podcast with 610 Sports Radio host Josh Klingler, Sporting Kansas City assistant coach Kerry Zavagnin described the current era of Major League Soccer as “MLS 3.0.”


Among the defining characteristics of MLS 3.0 is an increased focus on the development of young players within club academies. Sporting Kansas City can certainly be seen as a frontrunner in this particular area, as the team’s current roster is bolstered by seven Homegrown Players.


This crop of talented youngsters developed in the Sporting Kansas City Academy before reaching the first team, and one of them—right back and United States youth international Jaylin Lindsey—was the next guest to join Klingler on The Nutmeg Podcast.


In Episode 7, the 19-year-old Lindsey discusses overcoming a long-term knee injury that sidelined him for much of 2019, his journey from North Carolina to Kansas City as an Academy player, and off-the-field interests such as cooking and video gaming with his fellow teammates.
